Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
